Meditation Description

The nervous system is the bridge between your outer and inner worlds. And it is also the bridge between your inner and outer worlds.

Whenever your nervous system picks up danger signals, it moves into the fight or flight mode, preparing your body to fight or to flight.

While this comes in handy when you are being chased by a lion, when the threat has become your boss, a deadline or the state of global insecurity, your nervous system might run in overdrive of the fight or flight mode. Overtime, science shows that it changes the structure of your brain and might lead to dis-ease.

This meditation is designed to restore safety within your body by using your own voice. Making the sound “Ah” over and over again.

Through sound — specifically, vocal vibration in the throat — we activate the vagus nerve, the longest nerve in your nervous system. That action informs the body that it is safe and move you back into a relaxed state.

This practice is rooted in ancient traditions and brought into modern awareness through the teachings of Dr. Wayne Dyer, who often spoke of the “Ah” meditation as a path to connect with the Divine (or yogis opening their practice with the sound Om).

He reminded us that the sound “Ah” appears in the name of every major deity — Allah, Buddha, Krishna, Jehovah — a universal tone of reverence and remembrance.

As you engage with this meditation, you are soothing your body. And remembering your own sacredness.

This practice is perfect when you feel disconnected from your body, overwhelmed by racing thoughts, or trapped in a state of freeze or shutdown.
